Aboyne, R. Dee, 1871
This bridge was built for the Marquis of Huntly below Waterside, 2 miles upstream from Aboyne on the Aberdeenshire Dee (Map Ref NO 495981). Built in 1871 it is an early bridge, of 300 feet span, with a unique arrangement of two pairs of main cables between two sets of tension boxes. These may be seen at the top and half way up the pylons. The span was ambitious for the year and the longest by far using the Harpers Patent Cable tensioners. It is not known how long it lasted.
The bridge is no longer there and its history is unknown at present. |
