Doveridge, R. Dove, Derbyshire, 1898

This bridge spans the Derbyshire River Dove at Doveridge, near Uttoxeter. It was commisioned by Mr F.A.Brace of Doveridge Hall as part of a plan to divert the public right of way round rather than through his ground. Over the next few decades the estate failed to maintain the bridge (and the Hall itself was demolished in 1938). The bridge suffered a similar fate and after the 1939-45 War the local authority commisioned a replacement that was built by Rowell of London. The bridge had lattice pylons, finials and conventional cabling. |
