From Marshall Petree, AMICE, Borough Engineer and Surveyor to the Corporation of Gimsby, Town Hall, Grimsby, Lincolnshire, 1894.
"In reply to your letter of the 8th inst., with reference to the three Steel Rope Suspension Bridges recently supplied by you to this Corporation, and erected over a stream in the Duke of York Public Gardens, I am pleased to say they have so far given great satisfaction, and have been much admired for their neat appearance."

These three bridges  were built when the Gardens were laid out that year.  They were replaced in 1978. Illustrated is the Haycroft St Bridge, the middle of the three.  About 200yds downstream is an identical one at Ripon Street and 100yds upstream is a shorter one passing to the island.  At the latter, the masts on the bank site have been retained along with the transome bearing the makers name.  Each was 5'6" wide.  The two over the river were 50' span and that to the island 35'.
