Harper Bridges

Polhollick, R. Dee, 1892

Situated on the Aberdeenshire Dee just west of Ballater, this bridge is of 178.5 feet span , castellated top, and rivetted truss construction. The main cables are linked with  stablisers.  This bridge was gifted to the public by Alexander Gordon of Hildenborough, Kent, and built by James Abernethy & Co, Aberdeen.  It was probably designed by Louis Harper and so is included on this site.  The absence of Louis Harper's finials may be explained by the fact that they only appeared in their final form the following year.
